Today’s Positive Thought

Today’s Positive Thought  quote is by Dr. Maxwell Maltz from his book, Psycho-Cybernetics, and concerns self-esteem.

But the biggest secret of self-esteem is this:  Begin to appreciate other people more; show respect for any human being merely because he is a child of God and therefore a “thing of value.”  Stop and think when you’re dealing with people.  You’re dealing with a unique, individualization of the Creator of all.  Practice treating other people as if they had some value–and surprisingly enough your own self-esteem will go up.  For real self-esteem is not derived from the great things you’ve done, the things you own, the mark you’ve made–but an appreciation of yourself for what you are –a child of God.  When you come to this realization, however, you must necessarily conclude that all other people are to be appreciated for the same reason.

“Psychologist David Seabury says that the best piece of advice his father ever gave him was to practice positive mental imagery—immediately and “on cue,” so to speak, whenever he became aware of negative feelings. Negative feelilngs literally defeated themselves by becoming a sort of ‘bell’ which set off a conditioned reflex to arouse positive states of mind.”

A Quote

A quote by Dr. Maxwell Maltz from his book, Psycho-Cybernetics.

“The automatic creative mechanism within you can operate in only one way.  It must have a target to shoot at.  As Alex Morrison says, you must first clearly see a thing in your mind before you can do it.”

“This same creative mechanism within you can help you achieve your best possible “self” if you will form a picture in your imagination of the self you want to be and “see yourself” in the new role.”

Our focus is on who we are, not what we are not.

I am unlimited in my ability to do and to be.  As an individual I see myself successful and enjoying the fruits of my work.  I am grateful for my continued success.

Success Mechanism

While I was doing research for an article I came across a quote by Dr. Maxwell Maltz concerning our built in “success mechanism” from his book, published circa 1960, PSYCHO-CYBERNETICS.  I remember my parents reading the book, it was on their nightstand.  I wanted to share the quote with you as it pertains to having and reaching goals and achieving success.

“Your built in success mechanism must have a goal or target.  This goal, or target, must be conceived of as ‘already in existence now’ either in actual or potential form.  It operates by either (1) steering you to a goal already in existence, or by (2) discovering something already in existence.”

“The automatic mechanism is teleological, that is, operates, or must be oriented to ‘end results,’ goals.  Do not be discouraged because the ‘means whereby’ may not be apparent.  It is the function of the automatic mechanism to supply the ‘means whereby when you supply the goal. Think in terms of the ‘end result,’ and the ‘means whereby’ will often take care of them.”

As we visualize our goals as already accomplished we need not worry how they will be accomplished, just that they are  accomplished in the here and now.

Sometime ago I wrote an affirmation, positive statement, that I want to share with you.  Make a copy of it and place it where you will see it first thing in the morning. I have this statement on the bathroom mirror.

“I am led to the right people, places and things at the right time for my success, for which I am thankful.”

Let your “success mechanism” create the “means whereby” your goals are accomplished.

Continued Success. Jay
