Positive Attitudes With A Baking Twist

FYI

Movie CameraThis is FYI is by my friend, Travis De Luca, about people who label people, “losers.”Stage

I was out and about town today and heard people talking about “losers.”

Ok, here it is.  No one is a “loser!”  Someone may be unaware or unaware of their talents, abilities and potential but they are not “losers!”

Perhaps we can take time to mentor someone and allow them to discover their potential, abilities and talents so they can move forward to greater success in their life.

No doubt we have all missed an opportunity or two in our life but that does not mean that similar opportunities cannot make an appearance in our lives.  Opportunities are always knocking at our door and we can either answer the door or ignore it.  Our choice.

So, if you are upset about missing an opportunity or two, stop beating yourself up over it!  Opportunity is making an appearance at your door at the most unexpected times.

Missed two very big opportunities when I was young;, one for a television show regular and another for a B’way production.  If  I continually berate myself nothing comes of it but if I know that opportunities abound for me, then so be it.  Life is about living not wallowing in the past about mistakes.

Go get ’em tiger!!

A Friend

A Friend

Director's Chair  I have been talking with a friend of mine who has resurrected their acting career and union membership after a very long hiatus from the industry and is looking for representation, a talent agent.

They are very good, have a fantastic acting coach and are brushing up on film and television acting techniques.

Now about the comments they are receiving from different people in the industry, they are not always positive.

So, how are they dealing with all these comments?  First and foremost my friend has had many obstacles to overcome and is not of the mind to accept any negatives after all they have been through.  They are affirming throughout the day that they are “drawn to the right talent agent at the right time and the right talent agent is drawn to them at the right time,”  right roles, etc.,  always affirming the positive and visualizing their career taking off and being a full time, award winning, well paid actor.  Believing in ourselves, our talent and ability is a key to moving ahead in any life/career choice we make.

Each of us has had to overcome obstacles in our life/careers and it is about being positive in moving forward that has carried us to our goals.  We affirm the positives throughout the day, we take time to meditate, sit quietly and visualize the completion of our goals and see ourselves enjoying and reaping the benefits of these goals.  But most of all, we are thankful for having now achieved our goals, even though they may not be in sight.  Life is what we make it and what we proclaim it to be in our thoughts and words.

All of us have encountered people in our field of work who like to spew negatives about how hard or difficult it is or how long it will take to advance, etc.  It is only as hard or difficult as we choose to make it.

Treat yourself well and take time to do the inner work and watch it appear in the outer world, cause and effect.

Shakespeare wrote,

“All the world’s a stage,

And all the men and women merely players;

They have their exits and their entrances,

And one man in his time plays many parts…”

Perhaps it is time to rewrite the current script and create a more successful version of the character you are now portraying on the stage of life.

The reviews are in and the critics are raving about your success!!

Our Success

Our success is in living life.  It is in living with a positive attitude and foresight.

Our success is in being focused. In having a clear vision of our goals and where we are going.  If we need a clearer vision of our goals and where we desire to go in life, we can use either or both visualization techniques and meditation to help us center and afford us the opportunity to fine tune or set new goals.  Sometimes in our fine tuning we see, that, we are stubbornly holding on to some “thought or belief”  that is hampering our forward movement which can necessitate the replacing of the goal or merely recalibrating our thought/belief to be more in line with our ambition without being mulish about it.

Our success is in being open to new ideas, in new ways of doing things, it is about being flexible in life, thought and action/deed.  Not everything in life is black and white or blatantly obvious.  It is the varying shades in-between that color our life , that make us who we are, that gives us our character and unique successes , it colors our ambition to be all we can and to be successful in what we have chosen to do with our life.  There is no standing idly by waiting for success to suddenly appear in our life or drop into our lap as we sit in our easy chair or on the sofa while watching television. Write down or create a treasure map of where you see yourself, use positive wording, write in the present tense and make use of colorful pictures for impressing your mind.  Success is not difficult.  It is only our perception and belief of how hard we want to make it.  Success is a fun adventure; it is filled with thrills and chills, warmth and color, with passion and enthusiasm, with tears-some of sadness in the letting go and some of joy and happiness in the welcoming in.

When we know and affirm that we always meet the right people at the right time and right place, it happens.

When we believe and affirm we are always in the right place at the right time, it happens.

When we believe and affirm that the right “things” appear in our life at the right time for our benefit, they do.

Success is in knowing that so-called chance meetings bring success to both us and the others involved.

Success is in listening and heeding our intutiion.

When we know and accept that life has been and is always for us, then, changes appear in our experiences.

The power of our success is in the power of our thoughts and beliefs.  It is in gaining new perceptions and new concepts about living and life.  It is up to us to be open to life and all that is now and always has been ready to bestow upon us for a better and greater life of success, prosperity, health, wealth and well-being.

Our success is in being us; for all our faults and foibles.

Grow, change, fine tune, appreciate yourself for you, for your talents and abilities, above all, for the uniquely successful character you are.

Success, and all that perks that come with it,  is knocking, open the door and welcome it into your life and affairs.

Hi

   Hi Everyone,

I am not one who shares personal information…yet today I want to share a few details in light that it can help you or someone you know who is in a quandary about where to go in life.

Last year I had a full respiratory arrest, in a coma and there was a bit of time that oxygen was cut off to my brain, no major damage but just a twinge, so I have had to learn to deal with that uniqueness.  It has taken an abundance of determination, facing challenges, and allowing me to experience whatever it was I needed to experience to get to where I want to go.  Slight as it may be it still has had a profound affect on all things in my life.  From these experiences I have gained better insight and understanding of myself as me.  Decisions have not been easy for me and things I used to do in a twinkling of an eye, well, took a very long time to accomplish, outside my norm.

This blog was my first step to regaining my creativity and life, literally.

Newness is in my life.  As I am gaining more strength and mental determination, coming into my own so to speak, choices/decisions have been made and are now taking form.  I have made a decision to follow childhood dreams and resurrect my acting and writing careers.  I have had a 36 year hiatus from the stage and 20 years from television.  Looking at some head and body shots from decades ago of a slimmer and full head of hair me, my wife and I just laugh and wonder where the hair went…ah, genetics.

Determination has been revived and new plans of action are taking place for the acting and writing careers.  In order to get my feet wet; before I reactivate my union membership and secure talent and literary agents, community theatre is my start.

Being a motivational speaker, writer, columnist, retired minister, and host/interviewer/creator/producer for two cable television shows all have been good prep work and stepping stones back to the fields I love and enjoy.

Looking back at my past accomplishments has enlightened and also astonished me…I forgot so much of what I did way back when.  How about you? Have you looked back at your past accomplishments, talents and abilities that have been in memory storage?  Take a bit of time and look back by creating a resume of your accomplishments.  If you are like me it will perk you up, spur you onward and forward.  It was in looking back that a boost of self-confidence filled my heart, my mind and my soul to pursue this new direction and it will for you too.

Don’t be like me and wait until you have that brush/experience with death to follow your dream(s).  Why not take a stab at something new and express your talents and abilities, dabble and get your feet wet, experience a new way of living and being; for that which is inside you is aching to be expressed.  Take a chance on yourself and allow yourself to be the you, you really are.  Know that to you all things are possible.

To all of you, thank you for being there and being part of my growth and continued growthI can’t tell you how important your support has been and is to me.  As the writing continues and new goals/ pursuits are achieved you will be one of the first to know.

Enter stage right…

Jay   (I have just received a phone call informing me of a role in, The Odd Couple.)

Time To Laugh

The time to laugh is now.  At times we forget to have a really good belly laugh.

Laughter is healing, as Norman Cousins wrote in his book, Anatomy Of An Illness.

When was the last time you laughed at joke, at something you did or saw, or to yourself about some faux pas you or someone else made?

We all have so much going on in our life that we may be consumed and preoccupied with situations/conditions that can stress us out.  Time to step back when we feel overwhelmed by “things” and laugh.  Laughter releases stress and other good things into our mind and body.  Laughing is good for us, it lightens the load.  Why not watch a comedy that makes you laugh, we all have our favorites, be it a movie or television series.  One favorite a friend has are reruns of Laugh In from decades ago with Rowan and Martin.  When I really need a laugh I pop in a favorite comedy movie or read George Carlin.

A friend of ours is a stand up comedienne and has performed all over the country.  It is such a pleasure to be with her as she always has a joke to tell, points out some absurdity going on or comments on the ridiculousness going on in the world.  The smile on her face and her ability to make us smile and laugh is priceless.  A visit to her neck of the woods is something we look forward to and enjoy to the max.  I’m sure you have someone who brightens you up when you get together with their smile and joking around, etc.

Taking care of yourself and being successful go hand in hand.  Laugh and enjoy the day as it will have a very positive and direct impact on your outlook, your dealings with others and your life.

“I will laugh at the world…And so long as I can laugh never will I be poor…Only with laughter and happiness can I truly become a success.  Only with laughter and happiness can I enjoy the fruits of my labor…To enjoy success I must have happiness and laughter…” Og Mandino

Laughing is good medicine for the mind and the body.  Trust me.

The Stage

Ah, the stage and screen.  Having had the opportunity to meet  a couple of well-known entertainers from years gone by and discuss how they became successful was an insightful experience.  What I learned was the importance of perseverance and the cultivation of your craft, be it acting or business or another creative endeavor.  Needless to say, a positive attitude was very helpful and part of their success.

At a conference, I met a well-known character actress who was starring in a sitcom.  When I asked how she became so successful she laughed.  We sat down and began talking. She talked about how in NYC she was a member of a small group of  actors and actresses who first starting out would meet once a week and talk about shows, auditions, etc. The purpose of the meeting was to affirm each as a success in the industry and in high demand.  Some got roles on B’way, a commercial, a cameo or role in a series on television.  All through their meetings never was there any talk of not making it, the focus was on success.  They continued to meet until some moved to Hollywood or became a mainstay on B’way.  Always in contact theycredited how important and supportive their weekly meetings were in getting them jobs and notoriety. What was their secret?  It was coming together as a group and affirming their success, each affirming for everyone their success in the business. Never doubting that they would be successful.

I had the opportunity to know, for a number of years, a successful business woman. During the Depression when she or another family member was in need of a job they all went to a well-known, albeit expensive, restaurant and celebrated that the one who wanted the job had obtained it.  The next day or two sure enough they got the job.

During my life I have been graced with opportunities to meet and know a variety of well-known figures, they were humble and never bragged.  Each was successful in their own right.  Some came up the ladder, others  from prominent families who made it on their own.  Their desire was not only to be successful but to give to others and see them succeed.

If you or someone you know is going though a tough time suggest coming together and affirm the goal of success in whatever is needed; somehow and someway it will come to pass.  Always know for yourself your success in life and in the field you have chosen.  Life will always honor you at your own valuation.

Shakespeare wrote, and I paraphrase, All the world is a stage and all the men and women merely players…  Well, begin acting the part of a successful individual.  You never know who you will meet or the opportunities that will be presented. If you believe in you so will others.

Ok people, quiet on the set.  Action.

Enter stage right,

Jay

Exit Stage Left.  In memory of Moki, Lucille, Bob, D.K. and all I knew in front and back of the camera. In memory of Frances and Millicent, two wonderful and forthright women.
