What A Wonderful Day

 What a wonderful day!

Had to run errands and stopped for coffee.  The gentleman I met on the way into the coffee shop surprised me with a random act of kindness and brought my coffee.  I thanked him for his generosity.  What a nice gesture.  We never know how the good we do will be repaid to us.

Giving and receiving are two sides of the same coin; a circle in need of completion.  Not only is important to give with grace, but to be able to receive our good graciously when presented to us.

Many years ago there was book published concerning givers and takers.  The conclusion was, one must be both a gracious giver and receiver.  In this book the author stated, givers have an issue with receiving their good and takers have a problem with giving. Surprising, huh?

Moving along the road of success we give up old, tired, and worn out ideas, beliefs, and concepts that are no longer working for us to achieve our goals.  In replacing the old with the new more prosperous ones we receive our good in many forms: perhaps a luncheon or dinner business meeting to which we are being treated; it could be a recommendation for a job; a publisher or editor taking a chance on a book, an article or column idea; a literary or talent agent willing to represent us as they see our potential; meeting someone by chance who gives us a lead or better, etc.  There are a variety of ways that our good comes to us and it is up to us to receive graciously with an open heart and mind.

I have learned the hard way about not accepting my good when presented.  Like many I was taught, “Better to give than to receive.”  Well, it really is better to both give and receive to complete the circle and enjoy the benefits of both.

When the opportunity presents itself for a Random Act Of Kindness do participate, be you the giver or receiver.

Have a wonderful day!  Jay
