Positive Attitudes With A Baking Twist

Climb A Tree

Oh, to climb a tree again and view the world from on high.  To go berry picking in the forest and finding wild strawberries in an open field.  To swim at the local lake and enjoy toying away the summer with friends on a tire swing hanging from a walnut tree, playing ball, tag, hide and seek and a variety of other games.  To view a stagnant pond and marvel at the life that exists in and around it.  The awe, the wonder that we experienced as a child can never be lost, misplaced-yes, lost never.

There are days in my life that I miss the simple easy, fun days of childhood.  How about you?

Just because we are adults, chronologically, doesn’t mean we have to lose being awed and filled with wonder about nature and the world around us.  When was the last time you watched nature in action…butterflies flitting by, humming birds speeding from one flower to another, enjoyed the transformation of a tightly wound bud to full colorful, aromatic bloom?  Time to literally stop and smell the flowers along the path of life.  So many of us are cooped up in buildings, some with windows and some without, staring at a computer screen, shuffling paper, forwarding e-mails and all sorts of documents with the simple touch of the send key.  Some of the offices I’ve seen don’t allow any personal items on the desk or on the wall in the cubicle. Perhaps some have a screen saver of nature on their computer to help brighten up their work area.  Yet, there is nothing like the real thing.

Time to reclaim your childhood awe and wonder.

Why not take some time on your days off to get back to nature to enjoy; the tide pools at the shore, the life that is teeming around you as you hike a mountain path, a meandering path around the lake, walking the winding pathway at the local park and watching the interplay of the squirrels as they scurry along playing tag with each other, or reading a book underneath a tree.  Why not sip on a beverage on the lanai or porch and take in the beauty around you…beauty is everywhere if you but look and let your mind wander with wild and creative imaginings.  Geez, what does that cloud look like to you?

Take time to reconnect with life.  We have become so removed we lose ourselves from living life with awe, wonder and inspiration.  Breathe in the fresh air, give your lungs a break from the recycled air in the air-conditioned office and home.  Life is about living and being lively in thought and action.  Life is enjoying the splendor all around us and being amazed by the littlest things we encounter on a daily basis.  Today, stop and treat yourself to some fresh-cut flowers for your table.  Brighten up your living space and it will help to brighten you and your endeavors with a new splash of excitement, color and life.

Let that inner kid out to enjoy and play in the awesomeness of life.

Wanna go fishin’ at the pond or swimmin’ in the creek?

  1. Even now when I see a great tree I have to have a little climb. I’m 47, my other half rolls her eyes and shakes her head – but I’m full of glee! 🙂

  2. Every time I claim evolving through my 4th childhood, I can’t help but think about an incident as a child that makes me smile.

    • Glad this post brought up a happy time in your childhood. When I wrote this article I was think of climbing the weeping willow tree in my grandparent’s yard. Jay
